St. Augustine Society, Inc.

St. Augustine Society, Inc. operates St. Francis Housing Crisis Center, Port in the Storm Homeless Youth Center, and SOS Street Outreach, providing free emergency services, housing assistance, and life-changing support to unhoused youth, individuals, and families throughout St. Johns County.

Founded in 1984 by Joan Lohr and Fr. Robert Baker, the organization began as a community soup kitchen serving meals to those experiencing homelessness. What started as a grassroots effort quickly expanded to include emergency shelter and housing services, growing into one of the county's leading organizations dedicated to helping vulnerable residents overcome housing crises.

Today, St. Augustine Society provides a continuum of care that includes emergency shelter, street outreach, housing stabilization, case management, and supportive services designed to help people move from crisis to stability. Through St. Francis Housing Crisis Center, Port in the Storm, and SOS Street Outreach, the organization serves homeless and at-risk youth, adults, and families with compassion, dignity, and practical solutions.

In 2026, the organization expanded its impact with the opening of the Goff Family Shelter, a 37-bed facility providing emergency shelter for families with minor children. As the needs of the community continue to evolve, St. Augustine Society remains committed to creating pathways to housing, hope, and long-term stability for those who need it most.

By supporting St. Augustine Society, Inc., you are helping provide essential services and life-changing opportunities for some of our community's most vulnerable neighbors.
